Come Together

The individual initiative and rugged individualism of the conservative ideal can come together with the individuality of the expressive artist and democratic ideal on a higher plane. The "natural" inequalities of people--in competition and otherwise can strut their stuff on a level living field.

The conservative rugged individual if he uses a car or a ball point pen is riding on the backs of thousands of generations of inventors and laborers whose lives went into the development of technology-- for which the rugged individualist can never pay, even if he is Bill Gates putting out $1000 a day until he uses up his bank account in 24,000 years. We are all parasites on history's inventors and laborers--or rightful legatees, if we choose to see it that way.
